Using Animals for Character Designs

I wanted to see if I could make good character designs using animals as inspiration, so I drew these weird-looking kids.

Top row: ape, aye-aye, blob fish, echidna, frog, and giraffe

Bottom row: llama, octopus, owl, pig, vampire squid, and squirrel

That was fun, so I drew 10 more.

Top row: angler fish, capybara, elephant seal, flamingo, and goldfish

Bottom row: mantis, rhino, shark, sloth, and turtle

Then I started another set that I didn’t finish

Left to right: sheep, horse, moose, beluga, bat, cockroach, and eagle

Then I got it in my head that I needed a setting for all of them to interact them. I went with summer camp.

I have no idea how these designs come across to anyone who doesn’t have the inspiration explained to them. I named the images “ugly children,” but I think they have their charms. So now I can add them to the growing list of characters I should do something with someday.
